The Situation

Smirk designed a comprehensive organic and paid social media strategy for the City of Oklahoma City as part of efforts to increase responses to the 2020 Census. In partnership with the Be Counted OKC committee, we encouraged survey participation through education in historically undercounted populations as well as dispelled common misinformation surrounding the census.

The Solution

We utilized the City of OKC’s social media channels to address the critical services impacted by the census count and common pain points regarding taking the survey. Our English and Spanish campaigns delivered community-centric messaging to zip codes that had been previously undercounted in the census.

Our extensive city-wide organic and paid campaigns drove significant traffic directly to the 2020 Census website. By the time our project wrapped up, OKC was surpassing the national average census self-response rate.
